9 Frame Analysis - Arcade Fire - Steven Hegarty

Shot 1 - 0.16 - This is the first shot of a band member. It is a long shot which has the person slightly off centred in the light with darkness around her. This relates to the song as it is quite a dark song. The darkness is used throughout.

Shot 2 - 0.29 - This is a long shot of some of the band with the lead singer in the centre and the other members of the band on the edges close to the darkness. This shot continues from the last as the camera pans from the violin player to show us the rest of the band.

Shot 3 - 0.45 - Here is a cartoon-like shot of what looks to be the lead singer. It is a close up and carries on with the dark theme even though it has switched from real to cartoon. It looks as though the person in this shot is dead which relates to the gothic feel of the rest of the video.

Shot 4 - 0.55 - This long shot is also a cartoon. It shows some people on a boat that is about to be engulfed by a wave. The people seem distressed and the colours are very dull which relates well to the theme of the video.

Shot 5 - 1.32 - This shot is of a made up cartoon creature. This shows that the video is also very imaginative as it doesn't just involve real life shots and cartoon shots, but also shots of mythical thing. The gothic theme continues.

Shot 6 - 2.44 - Close ups of the lead singer occur throughout this video. Here is one of him while he sings. the background and dark edges relate to the gothic feel. We can also see a shirt collar which i would say relates the the old style gothic feel well as he must be smartly dressed.

Shot 7 - 3.47 - Here is a long shot of a cartoon woman who looks like the drummer of the band. She is wearing a long black dress with red gloves, this has a very gothic feel to it. The way she is dragging a house by her hair seems very strange and also shows the creativity of the video.

Shot 8 - 4.12 - This is a long shot of the people and a wide angle shot of the car, it shows what looks like the band in a cartoon car. It continues with the dark theme of the video. On the cars number plate we can see 'A FIRE' which is an abbreviation of the bands name.

Shot 9 - 4.13 - This is a mid shot of the band in a cartoon car. It is a mix between cartoon and real life. All of their faces look dull which relates to the gothic feel.
